34 villagers you can befriend, 12 of whom you can marry. Every one has a birthday and a list of things they love, like, dislike and hate.

How gifts and hearts work

You can give each villager two gifts a week, and a birthday gift on top of those two. What you hand over matters far more than how often: a loved gift is worth +80 friendship, a liked one +45, and a hated one takes 40 away. The gift guide puts all 34 taste lists on one page.

On a villager's birthday that effect is multiplied by eight, which makes one loved gift worth more than a fortnight of ordinary ones. All 34 birthdays are on the calendar.

Friendship is counted in hearts of 250 points each, and passing certain levels triggers a heart event. Reading the gates on all 107 of them: the 12 marriage candidates each have an event at fourteen hearts, though you can only reach fourteen once you have married them: unmarried, the meter caps at ten and freezes at eight until you hand over a bouquet. Krobus has a fourteen-heart event too, as a roommate rather than a spouse. Every other villager's events stop at nine hearts or below.

Universal gift tastes

These apply to every villager unless their own list overrides them. The exceptions under each group are the villagers who override it. Loves and likes here are complete; the dislike and hate lists are not the whole story, because the game hates a number of items that no gift table mentions, so treat an item's absence from these lists as unknown rather than safe.

One more is loved by everyone without appearing here: Stardrop Tea is worth 250 friendship, a full heart, and 750 on a birthday or at the Feast of the Winter Star. It counts against neither the daily nor the weekly gift limit.
